September 28, 2002 18 Wooster Street, New York Arto Lindsay and Noritoshi Hirakawa first performed Shower in The Dark in Vienna, and only in 2002 did New York let its guard down enough to host it. The sexuality in this piece isn’t easy to describe in terms common in either town. It’s not all blood and talcum powder like the Vienna aktionists would have it, nor forced and tawdry like on the old forty second street or on the old lower east side. Even less is it like the seemingly airbrushed without an airbrush and listless nudity we see today. It’s a little more fun.
