Ryan McGinness is known for his labyrinths of flat imagery, but in Worlds Within Worlds he extended his vision into the viewer’s space and created a world where his iconic imagery filled the air and breathed a sense of life. These multiple environments suggest the existence of parallel universes that develop self-similar cultures independently of each other but that are occasionally and briefly informed of one another’s progress through repeated wormholes in the forms of plants, roots, and other tunnel-like shapes. McGinness expanded this labyrinth into the third dimension with a mirrored maze installation in which the viewer was interjected between infinitely reflected collapsing and expanding graphic worlds.
