November 10, 2001 December 22, 2001
18 Wooster Street, New York
Originally conceived as a showcase of painters practicing in Northern California, Widely Unknown, developed into an exhibition about process, craft, storytelling, and passage and has come to include artists working in Arkansas, Ohio, Oregon and New York. The artists that gathered were particularly interested in the paradox of technology: excessive disuse in the midst of a frantic recuperation of old-time Americana. Widely Unknown, was dedicated to the memory of our dear friend and colleague Margaret Kilgallen (1967-2001). The graceful tenacity of Margaret's work was the inspiration for this assembly of artists.
Widely Unknown curated by Eungie Joo featured works by:
Nick Ackerman, buZ blurr, Bill Daniel, Cheryl Dunn, Chris Johanson, Margaret Kilgallen, Alicia McCarthy, Barry McGee, Manny Miranda, Eamon Oré-Giron, Rigo 01 and
Clare Rojas. Opening night performance by Track Star
